About Duncan

Beautiful Duncan, the City of Totems, is located in the Cowichan Valley about halfway between Victoria approximately 50 kilometers to the south, and Nanaimo 50 kilometers or so to the north.  The Duncan City Hall website details the history, heritage and settlement of the Cowichan Valley area, including how the addition of the railway in 1886 caused Duncan to become the commercial centre of the surrounding areas.

Shopping & Food

The charming city centre of Duncan offers over 300 independently owned shops, and services, including some pretty unique clothing boutiques and vintage book stores.  If you’re looking for a local craft beer and pub-style food, but sure to visit the Craig Street Brew Pub at 25 Craig Street – on Wednesdays $12 will get you a burger and a beer!  After a good morning of shopping if you’re ready for a really great cup of coffee and a snack sourced from local ingredients – particularly if you crave vegetarian or gluten free options – pop by the Garage Cafe and Bakery at 330 Duncan Street.

If you love the outdoors then Vancouver Island is the place to be.  Our lush forests and mild weather allows for a huge selection of fresh air activities, including camping, golfing, hiking, kayaking, fishing and more.  Mount Prevost is a hot spot in the the spring a early summer months for paragliding enthusiasts, with the flight providing outstanding views of Duncan and the Valley.  Got kids?
